Updating unlocked iphone 3g varadmmessages in solaris not updating
(this was the firmware that came bundled with the i Phone 4, so you may still have this baseband if you haven’t upgraded to i OS 4.0.2 or preserved the baseband from being updated using Redsn0w).
In case of the i Phone 3G, and i Phone 3GS which came with the older bootrom, you can use Redsn0w to install the i Pad baseband (6.15.00), which is unlockable.
If you have an unlocked i Phone 3G or i Phone 3GS do not update to this new firmware, updating to the i Phone 3.1.2 firmware will permanently update your baseband. A guide on how to unlock i Phone 3.1.2 will be up once a jailbreak tool is released.

There also hasn’t been any news or development on the software based unlocking method since Ultrasn0w 1.2.5 was released to unlock i Phone 4 and i Phone 3GS running i OS 5.0.1 with older basebands, which was back in late 2011.
